About

Heather Walker was born in the part of Surrey, (England) that changed its boundaries in 1965 and became part of London. She grew up there and still lives there. She is married and has two grown-up sons and currently lives with a dog, four female rats and several fish.

Heather has written in some shape or form since she was a young teen. It was only later in life that she took writing more seriously. From poetry, she ventured into short stories and flash, and on to longer pieces of work. She has attended Winchester's Writing Conference and was excited to have her own desk to write at for the first time, and Swanwick week-long summer conferences. These days she writes in the small front bedroom, which she admits is cluttered with all things writing and rather a lot more.

Her work has appeared in many print and Ezine magazines, including Popshot, Ink Sweat & Tears, Banshee Lit, The People's Friend, and various anthologies. Once one of her poems sat alongside an art exhibition celebrating the Artists Rifles at the Willis Museum, Basingstoke.

Heather has published two short novellas, Where It Ends and The Chair, and her first full length novella, Tinsel Street is due to be published by Troubador in late summer. She is a member of a local writers' group and has performed at open mic nights locally and once at Cafe Writers in Norwich.

When not writing, Heather reads avidly. Her other passion is music, and she often writes to trance playlists she's put together. Walking lends itself to 'mulling time' when thinking of a writing project, the next scene, or a plot causing a little trouble. Photography comes in handy for those research projects, but the interest has been there since she first used her dad's Box Brownie camera. Rivers feature heavily in her life and she'd love a cottage by the sea. Her favourite seasons are spring and summer.
