Not writing but reading

I just want to say hello!
Not doing much writing but gathering a few poetry books together to read.  From the library I've borrowed Vicki Feaver's The Book of Blood which I'm enjoying - love her descriptions - many poems here worth a second or third read.  From Amazon I've ordered Paul Farley's The Dark Film and also Gerard Manley Hopkins - The Major Works.  Having studied some of his poetry before and I want to delve further in.  His use of rhythm is unique, quirky and that appeals to me!  What are you reading now?

I did finish my story last week.  It is now 'sitting'.  An editing job is next on the list but I have no plans to start just yet.  If it still appeals to me when I next read it I shall be happy!

A new accceptance

Had an email from What the Dickens? magazine today to say that a poem I submitted has been accepted for the next magazine.  Yippee! This prompted me into some action, laboured though it was!  I have missed the deadline for the following magazine, drat, but I have filled in my voting paper for OU Poets (can't vote for myself unfortunately!).

I'm working on a new poem for submission next month to Areopagus and I have to write something for OU Poets as I didn't submit anything last time.

I need to suss out some new publications.  That's next on the agenda.

Enforced time a home finds a creative outlet.

After saying I wouldn't be writing here for a while...here I am!  An enforced period at home has led me to writing.  Yesterday I was in bed with a raging temperature and a hacking cough.  At some point either later yesterday or this morning (it's all a blur) I began thinking out the next part of the story I'm writing.  So this afternoon I have dragged myself downstairs and coughed my way through everything that was in my head.  At least some good has come of it.  I always know when I'm feeling a little better because I get bored and even though I still have a temperature it has lowered and I just had to do something as all my plans for yesterday and the weekend went out the window.

Probably time for me to return to a darkened room and lay down!

Writing Challenge

The small stone challenge is over and I managed to stick with it.  Their dedicated Facebook page is still open so people can still post.  The new suggestion is a Small Stone Sunday and I did manage a post on Sunday. But what now?

I would like to get back to the story I am writing but time is against me still.  There is too much going on at present.  I only have myself to blame and I knew it would be like this but basically I have over committed myself in other areas.  So please bear with me over the next six weeks or so.  There are likely to be more posts on my other blog than here for now.

To keep you going here is a writing challenge:

Find a postcard or a picture in a magazine of a place, find a picture of a man or woman and write about their character, what they do, their family, personality, desires in life.  You could even find a picture of a child and see life through their eyes.  Now put the person into the location of the postcard/picture and write a short story (up to. 1000 words) or a poem.  Why are they there, what do they see, what happens?

Feel like sharing?  Please do!
